Learn to rest, not to quit.

Whoa. Hi again. It’s me, I’m alive.

I swear I didn’t plan to drop off the face of the earth into a black hole. All I did was have a baby! …..and then I dropped off the face of the earth into a black hole.

Babies, man. I didn’t announce that I’d be taking time off from this blog because — well, because I didn’t think I’d need to! I’d be on leave from my real job, just gazing at my sweet snoozing bundle of joy, with plenty of time to think and reflect and write and maybe even whip up the next great American novel.

HA HA HO HO can you tell I had never met a baby before?

Well. My baby wouldn’t sleep, wouldn’t stop crying, wouldn’t let me put him down….…and then I accidentally let my domain expire, and it took a few weeks to get it back online and oh my goodness I’m so tired.

It’s getting better, slowly, and I guess I needed the break. Having a baby is the hardest thing I’ve ever done, and I’ve been grappling with the urge to quit everything else in my life to clear out more room for baby. But…yikes that doesn’t seem like a good plan. I need to learn to rest, not to quit, and be sure to leave some room for myself and the things that make me me.

A few years ago my life changed course when I stumbled upon the idea of intuitive eating on a random blog. And I want to be that random blog to as many people as I possibly can.

Thank you to everyone who takes the time to read here and for the incredibly kind, inspiring, insightful comments — I’ve fallen so behind on responding, but I want you to know that they mean the world to me. From the bottom of my heart, thank you thank you thank you. It’s good to be back.

Here’s to the last six months, and the next six months too. The time will fly and can truly change your life.

Ah, there you are! Congratulations on the baby. It’s like someone picks up your life, shakes it all around and hands it back – but with a baby* on top (*small angry boss who reprimands in public). Everything else rightly gets put lower on the list, but I for one am happy that your blog is at least ON the list.

    1. YES to the small angry boss who reprimands in public! Holy moly. Your description is so spot on….like someone turned my purse upside down and I’m scrounging around trying to pick up all the crumbs! Haaaa.

Thank you so so much for your incredibly sweet comment — and I love your name, Almost Sane! 😀

    Hi Kelsey,
So glad to see you are back and thriving. Congratulations on having a baby!! That is wonderful and he is definitely your priority as it should be. You absolutely need to take time for you. I think a lot of new mothers feel it’s selfish to do that but if you take the time to nurture yourself it will not only be good for you, but baby too.

    1. Deb! So great to hear from you. Thank you so much for your sweet words. I totally agree with you, but it took me a little while to get there! I think it was hard for me to accept just how much life changes with a baby — but it does, and it turns out it’s for the better 🙂 Thanks so much for always being such a kind reader!

It’s great to see that you still want to keep this blog after so long. I found you by chance when I was lost, and your posts were something poetic and revealing for me. More than six months have passed since then, maybe more than a year, but thanks to your words I managed to cheer up on many occasions.

Because of my low weight I lost even my period, and two years later, having recovered some of the weight I lost, it has not returned. I feel a little jealous every time I see a beautiful baby, not knowing if one day I will experience that tenderness.

I wish you both the best, sending a lot of positive energy and hoping he inherits the sensitivity and kindness that your words have always shown.

Anyway, I don’t want to bother you about my life, just wanted to thank you very much for your dedication!

    1. Oh my goodness! Thank you so, so much for your beautiful wishes for me and my son — they took my breath away. Thank you.

I am so touched by your sweet note and SO sorry to hear of your struggles. I hope and pray that there’s hope for a little one in your future. I can only imagine how hard it must be to wait and see and give it time — when sometimes time is the hardest thing to give.

Thank you for reading here for so long and for sharing a little glimpse into your life too. It means so much to me to have this community and hear how eating disorders and diets have affected others around the world. I’m sending so many positive vibes your way, for peace and sanity and all good things. ❤

Not sure you received my comment but I’m so glad you’re back. Ever considered starting a podcast? Maybe not right now sonce the baby is the top priority but in the future that would be so great. You’re my fave ED Recovery blog 🙂

    1. Thank you so much for your comments!! I’ve been in holiday mode and completely forgot to check in — so sorry for the slow response time!

I’ve never thought about starting a podcast, but I love the idea (and am completely flattered!) You’re right that I probably don’t have the bandwidth at the moment, but once my baby gets a little older it’s a wonderful idea. It truly means the world to me that you enjoy reading here and would be interested in listening to a podcast too! Thanks so much for your sweet words and for following my blog. It’s such a privilege to be a part of your recovery journey! xoxo
